Black Friday Deals are upon us! Who doesn’t ❤️ a good deal?
My advice – know WHY, before you buy!!! Remember, every garment needs to work hard for your closet!!
Don’t go buying:
❌ closet orphans
❌ clones
❌ what-ifs
❌ misfits
❌ trend for the sake of it
❓Ask yourself these 3 Qs:
✅ Do you love the item enough that you would purchase it a full price? Don’t let the sale price be the only reason you purchase something. You need to both NEED it and LOVE it.
✅ Do you have at least 3 ways to wear it? Every item in your closet needs to warrant its place there. You need to have a plan to wear it. And often.
✅ Does it align with your style profile (personality, body shape, colours, lifestyle). If not, the likelihood of you getting good wear out it is fairly slim.
Ultimately, what if you don’t purchase it? Reflect on how you would feel without having the item in your life. If it’s not that high up on your shopping intention list, walk away and keep your dollars for another item, or save your dollars for a completely different activity!
Personally, I avail of Black Friday deals to purchase items I’ve been eyeing for a while. I know I want it. I know exactly how I will put it to good use. I know it’s for me.

Black Friday deals are starting to roll in. I love a good deal as much as you do, but here’s the thing, it’s not ALL THAT if you don’t really need it!!!
I see “good deals” in client closets all the time, and my own closet is no exception. Very often a “good deal” will sit in a league of its own – doesn’t go with anything else, doesn’t quite fit right and doesn’t align with your style vibe.
Next time you feel the urge, ask yourself this – Am I impulsively buying into the price point or am I making a purposeful decision to acquire something that will work hard in my closet?

You can have all the reasons and excuses to hold off investing in yourself until some future date:

I used to feel weird and different as a kid because my name was so rare, but now I LOVE that my name can help break the ice and get the convo going (because I will always take time to explain its origin).

#styletip Tuesday: Coat season is upon us – and that means the black coat brigade is about to hit the streets!
As you reach for your trusty black puffer/quilted black jacket/black woollen coat/black leather layers – consider adding in a little something extra to counteract the harsh impact black may have on your complexion.
Let’s face it, even if black is not part of most seasonal colour palettes – we ALL wear it! It’s considered chic, sophisticated, elegant, easily co-ordinated and it doesn’t require a lot of thinking.
So how can you wear black in a way that doesn’t add years, drain you or make you look tired? The obvious response is not to wear it directly up against your face. However, assuming you love your black winter outerwear like I do, my go-to solution is to simply add in some accessories in your best colours. When your best colours are what gets reflected against your face, the resulting harmonious effect can make you look fresher and more energized, negating what black – on its own – may be doing to your complexion.
So find those scarves, hats, collars and even gloves, purses and boots in colours that work well for you to create a stylish and pulled together look. Black outwear doesn’t have to be flat and boring. Your accessories will allow you to make a stylish statement in a very simple and affordable way!

3 #shopping tips for jackets – and a bonus tip at the end!
Tip 1: when you’ve got the basic puffer or quilted jacket taken care of (which we ALL live in) think about adding what I like to call an “in-between” style. What I mean is, a jacket that will elevate your basic looks AND lend itself to more dressed-up outfits. Elevated basics take you more places 😉
Tip 2: Use this as an opportunity to add a little colour, texture or shape to your outfits. So when you’re shopping, consider all the pieces sitting in your closet and try and select an option that harmonizes with what you already own.
Tip 3: Don’t just leave your new purchase in the hallway closet when you come home. Bring it to your main closet and start coming up with ideas for how to wear it. Literally seeing the jacket together with your other clothes will allow you to create combinations you hadn’t even thought of previously…..slam dunk.
And the biggest tip, buy the trend piece if it appeals to your style and can seamlessly integrate into your closet. This will result in you wearing it often and holding on to it for a long time.

"Nobody else makes the effort to dress up, so why should I bother?"
One of my recent clients works 100% remotely, leading a large team. 90% of her work days involve Zoom meetings. Over the last 3 years, her WFH outfits had evolved into various combinations of comfy loungewear (sweatshirts & leggings), yet her casual weekend and going-out outfits are killer!
Understandably, her 9-5 outfits left her feeling detached, un-enthused and frankly unrecognizable to who she knows she really is – and this was beginning to impact the energy she brought to her work.
Why had she succumbed to this?
➡️ She just hadn`t figured out how to infuse her cool, rock-chic aesthetic into outfits that would read as professional – and be comfortable to sit in for 8 hours every day
– And –
➡️ The evidence all around her indicated that she really didn`t need to bother.
✅ Once we identified this, it was a matter of understanding how to seamlessly integrate touches of her edgy style personality into outfits (statement pieces and accessories were key) – allowing her to strike a balance between professionalism and authenticity, while still providing the comfort she craves!
– And –
✅ Recognizing the shift in energy that occurred when she made the effort to dress differently (and others noticed).
So yes, dressing in a similar fashion to your work colleagues can help you embrace the culture of your work environment – but layering on those individual touches can enhance a sense of self-assurance, allowing you to stand out and shine as the leader you truly are.
➡️ Even if it`s just you sitting in front of your screen at your kitchen counter, taking a more considered approach to what you wear versus mindlessly throwing something on, can facilitate a more positive outcome.

A note to everyone who is putting themselves out there and trying new things…
I know I`m not alone in wasting precious time second-guessing myself, doubting my abilities, questioning my judgement, stalling on the next move….mind games, all of it.
That inner critic tries so hard to keep us safe in the spaces we are all too familiar with – and it gets stronger right before unlocking that next level of growth. It`s normal – no S**T it crops up when your world is about to expand.
On #worldmentalhealthday acknowledge your inner critic. Then flip the script on your fears and remind yourself that you are smart, you are talented and you have so much value to provide to those who need it most. There are so many people out there who look up to you, take inspiration from you and aspire to be where you`re at.
You are capable of so much more than you realize.
